Artist of the Week: Ke$ha

The lyrics “So I have a question, do you want to have a slumber party in my basement?” have came out of my mouth at least 5 million times over the past week, and that is the exact reason why Ke$ha is this week’s artist of the week.

ke_ha_941411aShe’s partied in rich dude’s houses and begged for Stephen to call her thousands of times, but that doesn’t even begin to explain her life story. I’ll give you a small run down. Kesha was born in the Valley in Los Angeles but grew up in Nashville with her single parent rock star mom.  Basically, singer/songwriter runs in the genes.  The closest she’s came to meeting her birth father was when she fled at 17 to meet an inposter that turned out to just sit in a gamers chair in front of his t.v. all day.  Kesha has broke into Prince’s house, preformed with 3Oh!3, and recorded with FloRida.  Her first big track was “Tik Tok”  and her music is a mix of Uffie and Lady Gaga if you ask me, A.k.a. the best way to get hyped up before you go out Saturday night.

Band of the Week : Vampire Weekend

You pop in the DVD Step Brothers and you’re automatically greeted with A-Punk by Vampire Weekend. Perfect way to start a movie? Hell Vampire Weekend June 2007yeah. These Colombia graduate musicians mean business when it comes to indie rock.

No they’re not obsessed with vampires if that’s what you’re thinking. Their name originates from a film done in college by one of the members, Ezra Koenig,  about vampires on Cape Cod.  This band is guilty of using many different styles in their music, giving them their unique sound.  Their first album, Vampire Weekend, was a huge hit.  vampireweekendThey’ve recently just came out with a second album, Contra, which is absolutely as good as the first.  Check them out; Cousins on Contra + Cape Cod Kwassa on Vampire Weekend are some personal favs.

They won’t suck your blood, but they’ll make you fall more in love then you ever were with Edward Cullen.
